“City of Angels”

I would like to feel
the sensation of touch,
to hear the dawn sing
through bright sunrise.

I want to feel
the taste of pears,
the sweet smell of
your smooth skin.

I would like to know,
what pain is like,
what the physical,
mental affront is.

I want to feel the
current of billows,
 gentle morning breeze
of zigzagged winds.

I want to know,
what famine is,
what the meaning
of jealousy is.

I will leave everything
just for your kiss,
just for the touch
of your velvety arms.

And some comments by the judges:

  • I chose this as my favorite poem because of the very concrete, tactile images the writer used. I liked the striving for varied experience that appears in the progression of images. There is lots of imagination in this poem and serious consideration of the words to use and how they play together.
  • This poem has a strong emotional feel that elevates the work beyond mere words, which is very good.
